Handbook Book In The News
Nikon D50 Sd
INTRODUCTION
This is how I use and set up a D50.
Want free stay cellphone support, 24 hours a day, twelve months a yr? If you're within the USA, name (800) NIKON-UX! Nikon additionally has some of it's own operator's tutorials here.
I begin off explaining things so simply my mother can understand, and get on to deciphering every menu merchandise for advanced users on the bottom.
For more examples of why you'd need to change these settings and why, also see my Maui Picture Expedition page.
BASICS:
CAMERA
Many of those adjustments require you to be in be within the P, S, A or M publicity modes. You set that on the top dial. The cute preset modes typically lock out some adjustments.
I go away most settings at their defaults and use the Program publicity mode. I by no means use the cute little preset icon modes as a result of I desire to set anything particular myself.
ISO: I use 200. If the sunshine gets dim and my photographs would get blurry from slower shutter speeds I enhance the ISO to 400, 800 or 1,600. I by no means bother with in-between settings like 250 or 640. The D50 appears to be like wonderful at ISO 1,600 in the event you want it. I'd much somewhat have a barely grainy however sharp picture than a less grainy but blurry one. Not like movie, the D50 seems to be nice at high ISOs, so I take advantage of them anytime I would like them.
I would love to use ISO AUTO, however usually do not because it additionally remains energetic in Manual exposure mode. This firmware defect defeats the purpose of the handbook exposure mode. Utilizing menus to deactivate AUTO ISO for handbook exposure mode takes more time than AUTO ISO saves. Rats.
White Stability (WB): I'd use AUTO and an 81A glass warming filter on the lens. I desire hotter (oranger) images. I explain white balance on my White Balance web page and clarify extra about find out how to adjust it on the D50 later.
QUAL: I shoot JPG NORMAL. That is known as NORM and L on the highest LCD, which stands for NORMal JPG compression and Large (3,008 x 2,000) image size.
I've made 12 x 18" prints of the same shot made in BASIC, NORMAL, FINE and raw. I saw NO distinction! Severely, if you saw these prints you wouldn't have the ability to sort them out either. I can see only the slightest variations on my monitor enlarged to a hundred%, which is similar to a 20 x 30" print, and my digital LCD monitor has 100% MTF pixel-to-pixel, which prints don't. Don't be concerned: if you happen to need house, shoot BASIC and nobody will see the difference. The one strategy to inform is by trying at the file size.
I'll use BASIC for events and sports activities after I'm shooting many hundreds and lots of of photos at once. In these instances I am more concerned with time wasted for the information to transfer, copy and archive. Fundamental appears 99% the same as FINE, even blown up big.
I'll use FINE on uncommon events where I'm capturing just a few photographs and expect to look at them very closely. In these circumstances the additional size is not significant if I count on to be spending lots of time analyzing each image.
I avoid FINE JPG as a result of NORM gives me the identical outcomes, with half the file size. If I shot FINE I'd run out of room on a card and miss a shot. Lacking a shot is a really visible defect, and I see no defects in NORM. Nikon knows what they're doing. That's why they call it Normal and that is why I usually use Regular JPG.
OPTIMIZE IMAGE: I prefer the vivid coloration I get from Fuji's Velvia 50 movie, so I tweak a D50 to give coloration as vivid as I can get. To do this go to MENU > Shooting Menu (digicam icon) > Optimize Image > Customized > (set Saturation to + and Shade Mode to IIIa) > - - Carried out > OK. Should you forget to pick out "- - Completed" and hit OK it won't bear in mind these settings! Details are on the Taking pictures Menu page.
For photographs of people I both set the colours back to regular, or cheat and use the Portrait preset mode on the highest dial.
FOCUS: AF.
METERING: Matrix.
LENS
Many lenses haven't any switches or settings. In that case, don't worry.
More superior lenses have focus mode settings, which will probably be both "M/A - A," or "A - M" on older lenses.
On older lenses I depart it at "A," which is Autofocus. "M" is guide focus. Generally you also have to maneuver the change on the digicam, which is a pain.
If the switch says "M/A - A" then I take advantage of M/A. This gives autofocus, and if I seize the main focus ring it immediately lets me make manual corrections. As quickly as I tap the shutter button again I get autofocus. This M/A setting, if the lens has it, gives both kinds of focus with out ever having to maneuver any switches . It's the best.
Non-G lenses may have an aperture ring where the lens is connected to the camera. Set this this ring to the largest quantity, often 22, if not 32 or 16. This quantity will probably be in orange on autofocus lenses. There usually is a lock to keep this ring set there, since if it comes off that setting you will get an error message from the D50.
